The storm that occurred last weekend affected large parts of the National Capital Region and Ottawa Valley, and the University of Ottawa campus is currently without power, operating on backup generators at limited locations.
In a statement from the university presidency, it says:
Please be aware of the following changes to the schedule for May 24, 25, 26, and 27:
All classes - virtual and in-person - at the University of Ottawa campus are cancelled. Program teams consisting of faculty members, coordinators, chairs, and deans will develop recovery plans for the cancelled campus classes in Ottawa. These plans will be communicated to students upon their return in the week of May 30.
AC Online courses are cancelled.
The (Placements) in the Ottawa area are cancelled for the rest of the week.
The statement said, "If you are at a location outside the Ottawa area unaffected by the storm and you are able to attend, you may do so. Some health programs require prior time coordination. If this is the case, you will be notified next week by your program staff to make any necessary arrangements. If you are able, please contact your placement site to inform them of your status.
For co-op work learners in the National Capital Region, your safety is the top priority - if you are unable to attend due to safety issues or other storm-related circumstances, you are not required to attend. If you can, please contact both your employer and your department for updates to inform them of your status.
The Early Learning Center will be closed.
All corporate training programs are cancelled, unless otherwise explicitly reported.
All classes and operations continue according to normal schedules at the Perth and Pembroke campuses.
All staff at the Ottawa campus not directly involved in power restoration operations must stay home for the rest of the week, and if possible, work remotely.
If you are not directly involved in power restoration operations and were scheduled to work this week but are unable to work due to storm-related circumstances, including connectivity or childcare issues, please be aware that safety is the top priority, you are not required to work, and you will be paid as usual.
If you have questions or need further clarification, please contact your supervisor if you are able. More updates will be sent directly to learners and staff as soon as possible via email and social media.
The statement also said, "As this situation develops, the first priority is your safety. If you need immediate assistance, please contact the City of Ottawa for details on emergency centers and where you can receive support. You can get contact information for various municipal services at the following links: Perth and Pembroke and Renfrew County and Lanark County and City of Gatineau."
