A stabbing incident occurred in Ashbridges Bay Park after Victoria Day celebrations on Monday night in Toronto, the latest in a series of violent incidents on Toronto beaches during the long weekend.

Toronto police said the stabbing happened shortly after 11 p.m., shortly after the fireworks ended.

The incident arose after an altercation between two adults. The victim suffered a punctured lung and was taken to the hospital in serious but stable condition.

No further information or details about the incident were available.

There was a heavy police presence at the celebrations on Monday after a number of violent incidents the night before at Woodbine Beach and Ashbridges Bay. Toronto police said they arrested five in the park Monday night and seized a firearm.

The police do not believe that the stabbing incident on Monday night is related to the number of incidents that occurred on Sunday night.

Nineteen people were arrested and charged after a violent Sunday that included shootings, stabbings, two armed robberies, and multiple reports of people aiming fireworks at others.

Police said seven officers were injured during the police response. One officer broke his leg while responding to the shooting, two officers suffered burns and ear injuries after fireworks were thrown and exploded near them. Another officer was hit in the face by fireworks and sustained injuries to his ears and eyes.

Toronto police released details Monday evening about the charges related to the events that took place on Sunday night.

Mayor Tory condemns the violence at Woodbine Beach, Ashbridges Bay.

John Tory, mayor of Toronto, condemned the acts that took place at Woodbine Beach and Ashbridges Bay Sunday night, describing them as "criminal and reckless acts."

Tory wrote in an online statement: "This behavior is completely unacceptable and I support the police in doing everything they can to protect people and keep the public safe."

The mayor said he remained in contact with the police chief and discussed steps to be taken to reduce the presence of fireworks on the beaches to maintain public safety.

Tory wished a speedy recovery to the seven officers and thanked them for their prompt response to serve the people over the weekend.
