The death toll from a coal mine explosion in Bartın Province in the north of the country has risen to 28 after a partial collapse of the mine on Friday, October 14, 2022.
Local authorities indicated that 49 workers remained trapped inside the mine at a depth of about 300 meters underground, while rescue teams, supported by specialized teams, continue their efforts to save them.
Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu told reporters at the explosion site that "about 49 workers were working in the danger zone at a depth ranging between 300 and 350 meters underground."
Soylu added that there are some miners who rescue teams have not been able to evacuate from the stricken mine.
The Turkish Interior Minister explained, "There are those we were able to evacuate from that area. There are those we were not able to evacuate ..", according to Reuters.
