The Toronto Police have identified a man who was fatally shot outside Union Station on Saturday evening.
Shortly after 7:30 p.m., the Toronto Police responded to multiple reports of gunfire in the York Street and Bremner Boulevard area, near Scotiabank Arena and the entrance to Union Station in downtown.
According to Duty Insp. Paul Kraczk, officers arrived at the scene to find a victim lying on the ground.
Paramedics attempted to treat him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly thereafter.
The police identified the victim late Sunday as 24-year-old Stevon Little MacLachlan from Toronto.
Witnesses told police Saturday evening that they saw one suspect fleeing south and another fleeing toward Union Station.
As a result, Union Station was closed and TTC and GO Train service was temporarily suspended.
The police surrounded the area but did not locate any suspects.
Investigators explained in a statement released Sunday that they are looking for one suspect described as a Black man about six feet tall with a medium build.
He was last seen wearing a light-colored shirt and dark pants.
Kraczk said the police believe the shooting, which happened while thousands of people were downtown attending several weekend events, including a Blue Jays game and Honda Indy Toronto, is not a random incident.
He said, "I understand this will be very concerning for the public, as it happened in such a public place at 7:30 p.m., shortly after the Blue Jays game ended."
Adding, "But I want the public to know that from the initial investigation — and again, it's still very early — it appears to be a targeted shooting, so I do not believe there is any further public danger at this time."
In a Sunday statement, Mayor John Tory said his "thoughts and feelings are with those grieving for a loved one today following the shooting."
He added that "any gun violence in our city is unacceptable."
