Toronto is relocating 50 speed cameras to help reduce speed in concerning areas across the city. This will be the fifth round of relocations since the introduction of Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) devices in July 2020.

All ASE locations are primarily determined based on data indicating where speed and collision challenges exist. Each ward has two ASE devices that capture and record images of speeding vehicles.

"Speed reduction and reckless driving remain among the top road safety priorities in the city, and we know that automated speed enforcement is a key, data-driven, and effective tool in changing driver behavior and protecting vulnerable road users.

Mayor John Tory said in a statement Friday: "We know that when these speed cameras go up, drivers slow down."

Officials say they have deployed warning signs at all new locations to alert drivers in advance, according to provincial requirements. Additionally, more than 74,600 tickets have been issued through 50 devices.

John Tory stated, "Drivers caught driving will have to pay a specified fine."
