An Italian government source reported today, Tuesday, that the Tunisian suspect in the shooting deaths of two Swedish football fans in Brussels had arrived on the Italian island of Lampedusa in 2011, according to the Italian news agency.

The report also mentioned that the suspect spent some time in Italy before heading to Sweden, but it is believed that he was expelled from there.

The suspect returned to Italy, where he was classified by the police in Bologna in 2016 as a radical and was also placed under surveillance by intelligence agencies.

The spokesperson for the Belgian federal public prosecutor, Eric Van Duys, announced that Belgian police arrested a man today, Tuesday, October 17, 2023, suspected of shooting and killing Swedes in an attack in Brussels.

The suspect had fired at two individuals likely to be football fans, as Belgium is hosting the Swedish national team for a qualifying match for the UEFA Euro 2024 on Monday evening.

According to a video released by the Flemish newspaper "Het Laatste Nieuws," the perpetrator of the attack was traveling on a motorcycle and used an assault rifle from which he fired at least four shots.

The incident caused the match to stop after the Swedish players decided not to resume the second half following being informed about the incident during halftime.
