Government officials confirmed today, Thursday, the death of seven Canadians in the war between Israel and Gaza.

Global Affairs Canada (GAC) said in a statement on Wednesday that at least two Canadians are still missing, in addition to those who have been killed since the outbreak of the war following the attack launched by Hamas on Israel on October 7.

Canada unequivocally condemns the terrorist attack launched by Hamas against Israel and supports Israel's right to defend itself under international law. The government stated in the release that Canada calls for the immediate release of all hostages, and Canada has expressed deep concern about the situation in Gaza.

Global Affairs Canada noted that there are currently 5,765 Canadians known to be living in Israel, with another 451 in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and 17,135 in Lebanon. These numbers are based on those who registered with the registration of Canadians abroad, which is a voluntary process.

The ministry stated that as of Thursday, the government has assisted over 1,600 Canadians and permanent residents, along with their family members and foreign nationals to flee the area by air. Dozens of others have left by bus, and more of these transportations are expected "in the coming days."

Global Affairs Canada added in its statement: “The safety of Canadians, both at home and abroad, is our top priority.”

The updated total number of families supported by the government regarding the fatalities came a day after the federal government issued a call for "a humanitarian ceasefire, to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza and for Canadians and others," also urging other civilians to leave.
