Telus Corp announced that it will cut 6,000 jobs, stating that the Vancouver-based telecommunications company is reducing 4,000 workers in its core Telus operations and 2,000 others in Telus International.
The company also confirmed that it will offer early retirement and voluntary departure packages.
Financial market data company Refinitiv noted that Telus had 108,000 employees and 500 workers at the end of last year.
Plans to reduce its workforce were announced simultaneously with the company revealing a nearly 61 percent drop in net income for the second quarter compared to the same period last year, to $196 million.
The company's net income was 14 cents per share for the quarter ended June 30, compared to 34 cents per share in the same quarter of the previous year.
