Protesters will link their hands to form human chains around the world to show support for the ongoing demonstrations against the Iranian government.
Protests for #FreedomHumanChain are planned for this weekend in 10 Canadian cities, including Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton, as well as many other cities around the world.
In Vancouver, protesters are prepared to form a human chain between Stanley Park, across the Lions Gate Bridge, to downtown Vancouver, where the event will start at noon and end at 2 PM.
In Calgary, protesters will gather in Edworthy Park from 2 PM to 4 PM.
In Edmonton, a human chain will be formed at 2 PM at Calgary Trail and 92nd Avenue NW (Whyte Avenue).
The organizers of these protests scheduled for Saturday and organized by the Association of Families of PS752 Victims say the aim is to show support for those who continue to stand against the Iranian government following the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old woman who was reportedly beaten while in the custody of the Iranian "Morality Police" because she was not wearing the hijab properly.
Condemnation of the Iranian regime followed her death more than a month ago, and violence erupted in the country with several videos showing police shooting mourners in recent days.
Many people have cut their hair in solidarity with Iranian women, and protest organizers hope that the protest remains at the forefront of people's minds worldwide.
Earlier this month, a large demonstration saw people holding signs and linking hands to support women in Iran in Vancouver outside the Vancouver Art Gallery.
There were also many smaller protests throughout Metro Vancouver as well, in addition to demonstrations across the country.
Although there is no official headcount, estimates indicate that hundreds of people attended the previous event, causing some traffic delays along Georgia Street throughout the day.
