Immigration Minister Sean Fraser said that three flights are scheduled to land in Montreal on Sunday.

The second flight will bring nearly 900 Ukrainians who have been approved for emergency travel to Canada. Ottawa has already welcomed thousands of displaced Ukrainians who fled their homeland due to the Russian invasion and the ongoing battle that has claimed thousands of lives.

The first of three flights landed in Winnipeg earlier this week. The third flight is scheduled to land on June 2 in Halifax.

Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland joined Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson in welcoming the Ukrainian citizens on Monday. Manitoba MPs Dan Vandal, Jim Carr, and Kevin Lamoureux stood hand in hand to welcome them.

Freeland and Stefanson boarded the plane after it landed and were met with cheers and applause from the passengers. Freeland greeted in Ukrainian over the plane's intercom, while Stefanson thanked those on board for choosing Manitoba and Canada.

She said, "We want you to know that we welcome you with open arms and hearts... We will do everything to make your stay comfortable and safe."
