The leader of the New Democratic Party Ryan Meili announced that he resigned from his position as "MLA" for Saskatoon Meewasin.
Meili also stepped down from his position as leader of the official opposition, with the end of the spring session of the Saskatchewan legislature.
Representatives from both sides expressed their appreciation for Meili and his family for their sacrifices and service to the people of Saskatchewan, during Thursday's proceedings.
Carla Beck said: "As a leader, an activist, a doctor in Saskatoon and across this province, Ryan Meili has made many sacrifices on behalf of helping others."
Meili held the position of "MLA" for Saskatoon Meewasin for five years and as leader of the regional New Democratic Party for four years.
A by-election will be held in the district. Meili said his last day in the seat will be July 1st.
