The Palestinian Authority issued a statement regarding the visit of US President Joe Biden to the Palestinian territories and his meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, stating:

We welcome the American vision that Palestinians and Israelis deserve equal measures of freedom, security, prosperity, and democracy.

We call on President Biden to take tangible political measures to ensure the implementation of this vision on the ground.

We emphasize the necessity of ending unilateral steps that violate international law and undermine the two-state solution, including stopping forced displacement, stopping house demolitions and daily killings, halting settlement activities, and holding accountable those who killed journalist Abu Aqla.

We stress full readiness to cooperate with President Biden’s administration to remove all obstacles hindering strong bilateral relations between the two sides.

We appreciate President Biden’s decision to resume US aid to the Palestinian people, including support to UNRWA and East Jerusalem hospitals.

For his part, US President Joe Biden said his country will continue to insist on working to achieve transparent accountability for the killing of journalist Shireen Abu Aqla, noting that she was performing vital work and her death was a loss.

In a joint press conference with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Biden said: "We must put an end to the violence that has destroyed many families, many Palestinians and Israelis have lost their lives this year," pointing to the killing of Abu Aqla and "she was a proud American-Palestinian woman who carried out her tasks through independent media."

He added: "Her killing is a loss for the Palestinian people and we hope that her legacy will inspire others to uncover the truth," affirming, "We are focusing on the investigation process to reveal the circumstances of her killing and ensure press freedom."
