The Downtown Business Improvement Association and the Timmins Chamber of Commerce are hosting an open meeting on Monday with business and property owners to address their safety concerns.
There has been an ongoing issue in the city lately, and as business leaders prepare to host the session, a leading jewelry store in the heart of downtown recently installed surveillance cameras.
Business and property owners have expressed concern about the security of their stores and offices throughout the city. Owners have been very frank in the news and on social media platforms.
Campbell said, "This is our chance to connect and make sure we are doing our best for our community." This is not the first time such a meeting has been held, but organizers say the time has come for another meeting.
Some of the presenters will include Kate Five and Patrick Novak from the hospital, Brian Marks from social services, Deputy Mayor Michelle Boileau, and Timmins Police. "It is to provide real feedback and insightful perspectives on exactly what the judicial process is, some of the barriers they face daily, and also the huge volume of calls they receive.
One business owner told CTV News that people are afraid to speak out loud because they fear retaliation from criminals, which they have already experienced.
Cameron Grant from the Timmins Chamber of Commerce said, "Transparency will also be present and actually in place."
