There is renewed effort to ban fireworks in London, Ontario. The author of an online petition says the evidence is mounting that the downsides outweigh any enjoyment fireworks provide.

Diana Ronson insists there are other ways to celebrate major holidays. For many.

Diana Ronson says there are numerous concerns about pets, wildlife, and people, ranging from psychological effects to environmental issues.

Ronson said, "I found many studies conducted on the impact on the environment, heavy metals, and particles in the air."

Ronson explained her concerns in an online petition and hopes to continue seeking support. She was also encouraged by conversations with city staff indicating that changes to internal regulations are being considered.

She added that there are cost-effective alternatives, including laser shows and silent fireworks, which do not significantly affect the environment, animals, or people.
