The mayor Ed Holder will retire from political life at the end of the current council term. According to a statement issued by the mayor's office, Holder will not put his name on the ballot as part of the municipal elections in October.

Holder said: "The opportunity to serve as mayor has truly been a lifelong honor... As I prepare to enjoy life outside politics, I feel great pride in this council's achievements." "Together, we have made historic investments to support our most vulnerable populations, along with transformative changes to London's transportation system."

Holder became London's 64th mayor on December 1, 2018. Before that, he served as the Member of Parliament for the West London area from 2008 to 2015 and was also the federal Minister of Science and Technology.

Holder said: "My decision not to run for a second term as mayor comes after much reflection and discussions with family." "I have simply reached a point in my life where I want to dedicate more time to other tasks at a more relaxed pace... In the meantime, there is still a lot of important work to be done from now until the elections.

I remain fully committed to my responsibilities and duties." Holder's last day in office will be November 14, 2022.
