The province of Nova Scotia hopes that international students trained in New South Wales will settle down.
Additionally, the province is working to expand its fast-track immigration program to include international students who wish to become paramedics and pharmacy technicians.
For their part, Health Minister Michelle Thompson and Advanced Education Minister Brian Wong said on Friday that the government is adding students in these fields to its list of in-demand international graduates.
The province is also allowed to nominate immigration candidates for federal approval. In this case, it hopes that international students trained here as paramedics and pharmacy technicians will settle in the province.
The accelerated immigration program in Nova Scotia already includes nursing assistants, organizers, continuing care assistants, and daycare workers.
Also, in March, the provincial nursing regulatory body announced a reduction in the timelines for nurses from seven foreign countries to obtain licensing in Nova Scotia from about a year to a few weeks.
Up to 400 jobs...
Furthermore, officials recently attended international gatherings where they interviewed refugees with health backgrounds to relocate to the province.
Alison Boudinar, the CEO of the Pharmacy Association of Nova Scotia, stated that pharmacy technicians can perform tasks such as dispensing medications after the pharmacist reviews the prescription, and she noted that around 200 workers will be needed in the coming years.
Meanwhile, Charbel Daniel, the Operations Manager at the Emergency Medical Care Company, said that between 150 to 200 paramedic jobs could be available for international students after they complete training in an accredited private or community college program.
