Most Canadians will be able to get an extra hour of sleep this weekend, as the clocks fall back at the end of daylight saving time, so everyone will set their clocks back by one hour. Daylight saving time began at 2 a.m. on March 13, and will end at 2 a.m. on Sunday. There has also been discussion about ending seasonal time changes across the country, with some provinces and territories choosing to stay on daylight time year-round, while others are waiting for a similar move in the United States.

Also, Yukon decided in 2020 not to make seasonal changes anymore and now follows its own standard time zone, while Saskatchewan has not changed its clocks for more than 100 years. Additionally, a private member’s bill was passed in Ontario to make the province permanently on daylight time, provided Quebec and New York do the same, with unanimous support in 2020, but it stopped after the legislator voted to leave office.

In the same context, Quebec Premier François Legault at the time said he was not opposed but said it was not a priority. Furthermore, British Columbia passed similar legislation the previous year to commit to daylight saving time, but it is also waiting for some southern states to do the same.
