After the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) confirmed its readiness to intervene in Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso sent warplanes to Niamey, as part of the two countries' efforts to counter any potential military intervention.
A report broadcast by the state television in Niger highlighted the joint efforts of Mali and Burkina Faso to support the coup leaders in Niger against any potential military intervention by the ECOWAS force.
The report stated: "Mali and Burkina Faso have translated their commitments into tangible action by deploying warplanes to respond to any attack on Niger."
It emphasized that the aircraft sent are "Super Tucano" fighters.
Burkina Faso and Mali previously issued a statement to support Niger against the military operation planned by the ECOWAS group.
It is noted that the chiefs of staff of the armies of the member states held a meeting in the past two days regarding the potential military intervention in Niger.
Following this, the Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security of the group, Abdurrahman Moussa, confirmed that the organization's force is ready to intervene in Niger as soon as the leaders of West African states give the order.
The military leaders outlined the details of the potential military intervention to restore the elected president Mohamed Bazoum to power after his ousting in a military coup on July 26, but they reiterated that the Economic Community of West African States prefers to pursue the path of dialogue.
