Catherine McKenney, the candidate for mayor of Ottawa, fulfilled their promise to publish a list of contributors to their election campaign who donated more than $100 before the election.

The list includes all donations of $101 or more made before October 9.

McKenney says they will issue an updated list on October 20 to include the period from October 10 to 19.

Candidate financial data is published by the City of Ottawa following the elections, but McKenney promised to announce the donor list two weeks before Election Day.

"Voters have the right to know who is funding a candidate before casting their votes. McKenney said in a press release on Monday that publishing this information before Election Day is not the rule, but it should be, and that is why I urge all other candidates for mayor to disclose their donor lists.

The donor list provided by McKenney includes 1,303 names from all city areas and just over ten names from other municipalities in Ontario, including four from Toronto.

Under the Municipal Elections Act, a candidate may accept contributions from individuals residing anywhere in Ontario.

43 people on McKenney’s list donated the maximum amount of $1,200 to their campaign.

The total fundraising amount shown among all donors who contributed at least $101 is $334,907.57.

The average donation was $257.03. McKenney said they will not accept donations from developers, including their family members and employees.

McKenney said, "If I learn that a developer or a member of their family or an employee has contributed to my campaign, that donation will be returned."

McKenney is one of 14 candidates competing for the position of mayor of Ottawa.

Election Day is October 24. There is also an advance voting day in all wards on Friday.
