Singaporean companies are looking to Canada for ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions while enhancing global supply chains, as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau visits the city to promote businesses and products from home.

Trudeau held four meetings on Thursday with business leaders in the region and is expected to meet with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong tomorrow, Friday.

Vijay Iyengar, Chairman and Managing Director of a company investing in sustainable sources of agricultural food products, met with Trudeau on Thursday, and during the meeting, he stated that Agrocorp International, which has already invested heavily in Saskatchewan and Alberta, is looking for ways to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions and "do what's right, and know what's good for our future."

Iyengar said about investing in the future, "Canada is a hotspot for us."

Trudeau promotes Canada as a suitable place for settlement, growth, and diversity that will provide Singapore with reliability and job growth.

The Prime Minister is visiting Asia this week to enhance trade as well as Canadian energy and products, meeting with leaders from the Indo-Pacific region and attending two summits.

"A big part of promoting Canada's interests here is the necessary touch between top government leaders and senior private sector leaders," according to statements from Wayne Farmer, Chairman of the Canada-Asia Business Council, on Thursday.

The visit to Singapore follows a stop in Jakarta, Indonesia, where Canada launched a strategic partnership with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

The partnership is a symbolic gesture reflecting Canada's expanded presence in the Indo-Pacific region, where Trudeau stated it demonstrates progress on the free trade agreement with 10 ASEAN countries.

Trudeau will head to India at the end of this week to attend the G20 Leaders' Summit in New Delhi.
