Officials said that at least 29 people were injured with minor injuries when a passenger train collided with a stationary freight train in Punjab province.
The incident occurred early in the morning near the city of Lahore in the east of the country when the "Mianwali Express" train collided with one of the stationary freight trains on the circular branch line at the "Qila Star Shah" railway station.
According to the spokesperson for the rescue department, Farooq Ahmed, to the German news agency (DPA), the "cause of the accident is not yet known." Ahmed stated that two passengers were transferred to the hospital for treatment.
Deadly train accidents are common in Pakistan, leading to hundreds of deaths every year due to poor infrastructure and negligence.
In August, at least 30 people died, and around 80 others were injured when one of the trains derailed in Sindh province in the south of the country.
