Toronto Pearson International warns travelers and Mississauga residents of potential delays this weekend as the airport conducts a training exercise.

According to a statement issued on Friday, the exercise will be held on May 28 between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. During this time, nearly 300 volunteers will take on the role of protesters in a mock "emergency drill." The airport said the exercise is a requirement from the Canadian Transportation Authority and is an "important way to test emergency response at the airport."

The airport highlights that this is a planned exercise, and there is no need to worry. However, they warn of possible traffic delays in the Convair Drive and Electra Road area in Mississauga.

From late April until May, Pearson faced a number of delays in both arrivals and departures. The airport attributed the delays to staffing issues.

Earlier this month, the Chief Operating Officer of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA), Craig Bradbrook, told CP24 that delays could become "unsustainable" as we move into the summer season, with the authority expecting to see nearly 45,000 international arrivals daily during this period.
