Three Syrian children and their mother died in a boat sinking accident carrying 60 people including Syrians and Lebanese, off the coast of the Lebanese city of Tripoli, on Sunday night, while trying to reach the Italian shores by sea, according to what was confirmed by local Syrian media.
Activists on social media circulated a picture of the three children Masha, Muhammad, and Jad Sabsebi, who drowned, alongside their mother Riham Dwalibi, 25 years old, off the coast of the city of Tripoli in northern Lebanon.
Lebanese media confirmed on Monday that the Lebanese Army forces were able to recover the bodies of two new victims among the passengers of the "death boat" off Tripoli, noting that the two bodies were transported to the governmental hospital in Tripoli and they are Lebanese citizens Amir Qaddour and Khadija Al-Namri.
The Lebanese army confirmed on Monday that it continues the search and rescue operations carried out by army personnel by land, sea, and air after the sinking of the boat, which carried dozens of people, off the shores of Tripoli.
The media office of the Lebanese Ministry of Health announced in a statement that "the ministry informed hospitals in the North region to receive the wounded from the boat accident as well as the bodies of the victims and to complete the necessary procedures to hand over the bodies to the families. Six victims have been counted so far, including the girl who was found upon the discovery of the sinking incident."
The Director of Medical Care at the Lebanese Ministry of Health, Dr. Joseph Halou, explained that "the medical teams affiliated with the ministry coordinate relief procedures with the army and the Red Cross at the Port of Tripoli, where immediate treatment was carried out at the same place for 36 people who suffered minor injuries, and eight wounded were transferred to hospitals that completed their treatment before their departure at dawn."
