The cost of renting one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments increased by 20 percent in Ottawa in October, as rents continued to rise across Canada.
The national rent report from Rentals.ca also showed that the cost of a one-bedroom apartment increased by $336 in October compared to the same month in 2021, while the cost of a two-bedroom apartment increased by $407.
Also, tenants in Ottawa were paying an average of $1,959 per month for a one-bedroom in Ottawa last month, an increase of 20.9 percent over October 2021. The cost of a two-bedroom apartment averages $2,443 in Ottawa, up 20.3 percent from last year.
In Gatineau, a one-bedroom apartment cost $1,630 to rent in October, up 14.9 percent from October 2021. The cost of a two-bedroom apartment decreased by 0.7 percent to $1,764.
Also, the monthly report from Rentals.ca showed that the average cost of renting a one-bedroom apartment was $1,736 in October, a 14.48 percent increase over last year. The cost of renting a two-bedroom apartment jumped 13.97 percent to $2,147.
Meanwhile, Vancouver has the highest rental rates for one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments in Canada, followed by Toronto and Burnaby, then British Columbia. Ottawa ranks 13th on the list for one-bedroom apartments, while Gatineau ranks 24th.
Kingston ranked 22nd on the list, with the cost of a one-bedroom apartment rising 7.6 percent to $1,679 in October.
