Tedros Adhanom, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, warned against repeating the mistakes of the past regarding the handling of epidemics in the future.
This came in a post on his official page on "X" (formerly Twitter) today, Thursday, where he stated that the emergence of the next epidemic is not just a possibility but a matter of time.
Adhanom said that the member states of the World Health Organization are negotiating to reach a new agreement on handling epidemics and making amendments to the organization's regulatory procedures.
He also added, "Negotiations are also underway to strengthen the legal framework for global pandemic response."
The Director of the World Health Organization addressed the Inter-Parliamentary Union to support negotiations on this matter so that a consensus can be reached during the upcoming World Health Assembly meeting, which includes the member states of the organization, scheduled to be held in May 2024.
