Germany: Evacuation of buildings after receiving a bomb threat inside a television station

The German police announced on Monday the end of the state of danger after several buildings were evacuated in the city of Mainz due to a bomb threat at the second channel of German television (ZDF), which has its headquarters there.

The police added in a statement that the authorities "assessed the threat that was sent via email and determined that there was no indication of a tangible danger."

The police also searched the station's headquarters with trained dogs after receiving the threat at around 8:20 AM local time (6:20 AM GMT).

The authorities allowed individuals to return to the buildings after about two hours, according to Reuters.

Six airports across France were evacuated on Wednesday after receiving "threats of attacks" via email, a police source reported.

Germany has witnessed a series of "anti-Semitic incidents" following the attacks on October 7 carried out by Hamas, to which Israel responded with heavy bombardment of the Gaza Strip.

Germany has enhanced the protection of Jewish institutions throughout the country, considering it "its responsibility to protect Jewish life since the Holocaust."

Before the recent events in the Middle East, Germany reported in May that it "recorded a record number of politically motivated crimes last year, including an increase of nearly 29 percent in anti-Semitic crimes, which reached 3,027 offenses," according to Agence France-Presse.
