France denied today, Tuesday, that its army had made any request to Algeria to open its airspace for use in targeting the military council in Niger.

Thierry Burkhard, Chief of Defense Staff in France, stated that his country did not ask Algeria to use its airspace to carry out a military operation in Niger.

Earlier, the Algerian radio reported that Algeria had rejected a French request to open its skies to a military operation in Niger following the coup on July 26 in the West African country located south of the Algerian border.

Previously, the political situation changed following the military coup carried out by the presidential guard after President Mohamed Bazoum and his wife were confined inside the presidential palace, and the residential area surrounding the headquarters and its suburbs was restricted, in addition to completely preventing access to the presidential offices.

On the other hand, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) met regarding the Niger crisis, resulting in the first session when they demanded that the coup forces release Mohamed Bazoum and restore him to his position as the first elected president of the country, giving them only one week, after which military intervention will take place in the capital, "Niamey," if this request is not approved.
