A fire broke out in a forest for hours on Sunday in the eastern part of Montreal, aided by warm and dry weather and wind in igniting the fire.

The fire broke out at around 11:20 AM near Club de Golf de l’Ile and around it on Damien-Gauthier Street in Riviere-des-Prairies-Pointe-aux-Trembles. Patrick Fournier, Chief of Operations at the Montreal Fire Department, said the fire continued for 4 hours with about 85 firefighters fighting the fire.

He said that dry plants helped spread the flames but the fire did not threaten any home in the area.

Officials warned citizens about the risk of fire in open areas and private or public green spaces such as home yards and forests... to avoid losing control of it and the possibility of it spreading to other areas. The agency's website listed six active fires across the province on Sunday, and there have been 99 fires so far this year.
