Fredericton – The federal government announced funding of $55 million to expand high-speed internet networks in many rural, remote, and Indigenous communities in New Brunswick.
For his part, the Minister of Rural Economic Development, Jody Hutchings, said the funding will help connect 11,000 households to a high-speed internet network.
Details of projects with Rogers and Xplornet will be announced in the coming months.
Hutchings says there will still be about 20,000 homes in New Brunswick without high-speed connection, which will need to be included in future projects.
In the same context, the federal government has set a national goal of providing all Canadians with access to high-speed internet by 2030.
