With the start of the construction season in Saskatchewan; the provincial government has laid out plans to improve nearly 1100 kilometers of regional highways in 2022.

This will bring the total improved roads over three years to 3500 kilometers, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure.

The highways designated for paving improvements this season include:

Highway 1 west of Moose Jaw (13 km)

Highway 4, north north of Battleford (12 km)

Highway 5 west of Humboldt (17 km)

Highway 6 south of Naicam (8 km)

Highway 11 north of Kingston (8 km)

Highway 21, south of Kindersley (10 km)

Additionally, the ministry announced that 14 sets of crossings will be constructed on Highways 5, 7, 12, and 16. These improvements lead the twinning project of Highway 3, west of Prince Albert. Along with general maintenance and paving, the Ministry of Highways also indicated in its statement that service roads leading to provincial parks will be a priority during this construction season. The specified roads mentioned are:

Highway 26 to "Meadow Lake Provincial Park"

Highway 38 to "Greenwater Provincial Park"

Highway 204 to access "Battlefords Provincial Park"

With Saskatchewan highways congested during the long May weekend, Minister of Highways "Fred Bradshaw" has asked the public to be vigilant and slow down to 60 km/h when passing through construction zones.

He said in the statement "The Ministry of Highways has hard-working crews across the province implementing improvements on our road network." "We want to ensure each of them returns home safely every night.

We also want drivers to understand that the traffic slowdown is temporary, and they will soon have a better road to travel on after the completion of construction."
