Authorities said that wildfires in the Northwest Territories of Canada forced the complete evacuation of the town of High River yesterday, Friday, which is home to about 4,000 people and is located on Great Slave Lake.
The Northwest Territories government ordered everyone in the town, including essential workers, to go to the city airport and wait for further instructions.
It also stated in a notice posted at 3:23 PM local time, "Anyone remaining in High River takes responsibility for themselves... there will be no emergency services or response available."
Canada is experiencing the worst wildfire season on record, and in recent days, more than 50,000 people, including all residents of Yellowknife, the capital of the Northwest Territories, have been forced to flee their homes.
