The district adds three new health teams in Ontario, one of them in Northern Ontario.

Maamwesying Community Health Services applied to the Ontario government three years ago and was approved to join the coordinated system in an official announcement on Friday.

Now, as a member of the Ontario Health Team, access to healthcare for the more than 5,000 members of Maamwesying will be more clear.

Carol Ishkakogan, the executive director of the center, told CTV News that she was pleased to hear of Maamwesying’s approval.

The organization currently has 120 employees. Ishkakogan said this new approval brings an opportunity for more funding.

She hopes they will soon be able to increase the number of staff, specifically doctors and nurses, who visit Indigenous communities in the area.

To stay up-to-date with the services Maamwesying offers or to view upcoming events, you can visit their Facebook page.
