Colombian players celebrated on the field for a long time after the team qualified for its historic first-ever trip to the quarter-finals of the Women's World Cup.

Catalina Usme's goal in the second half gave Colombia a 1-0 victory over Jamaica. Both teams aimed to achieve their first win in the knockout stage, with the winner advancing to the quarter-finals of the biggest football tournament.

Usme said, "After the goal hit the net, I had all kinds of emotions. Throughout all the years in women's football, it was a beautiful moment, giving us the opportunity to make history for our country, but we can go further. We came here to play seven finals. We need to take it step by step."

Colombia, a team that did not qualify for the 2019 tournament, played a physical and tough match. Linda Caicedo, the 18-year-old player who plays for Real Madrid, created chances and tested Jamaica's defense, which had not conceded any goals in the group stage.

Colombia moves to Sydney for a knockout match on Saturday against England, the European champions, who advanced on penalties after a goalless draw with Nigeria.

Usme stated, "In the match against England, we came here to play seven finals. We are confident in our preparations and dream big dreams. We know we can achieve them. We can do it."

Usme exclaimed in celebration after she took a long pass from Ana Guzman and calmly finished in the 52nd minute. When she was substituted late in the match, Colombian fans cheered her name and she bowed to the crowd.
