The Minister of Education in Ontario said he asked the Ontario College of Teachers to review the professional conduct provisions after photos were posted online showing a teacher wearing large fake breasts in a classroom.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, Steven Lecce said that while the province celebrates differences, it also believes that "there must be the highest standards of respect in front of our children."

On this basis, he asked the Ontario College of Teachers to review those provisions and consider strengthening them regarding professional conduct, which we believe will be in the interest of all children in Ontario." Little context was provided for the photos by the province or the Halton District School Board (HDSB), which said they could not comment because it is "a staff matter." Photos of the employee, said to be from Oakville Trafalgar High School, were widely shared on social media over the past few weeks. In the photos, the individual is wearing large fake breasts, covered by clothes, while standing with students.

At least one protest was organized by Maxime Bernier, leader of the People's Party of Canada, over the weekend. The politician said they were protesting "excessive and ugly sexual attire" while demanding "action to be taken." Heather French, Director of Communications and Engagement at HDSB, told CTV News Toronto that the board is committed to maintaining a "safe, caring, inclusive, equitable, and welcoming" educational and work environment.

French said: "HDSB recognizes the rights of students, staff, parents/guardians, and community members to be treated fairly without discrimination based on gender identity and gender expression." The Ontario College of Teachers is an entity that licenses, manages, and regulates the teaching profession. According to its website, they have the ability to issue, suspend, and revoke teaching certificates, set ethical standards for practice, and investigate complaints related to members.
