Statement, Ahmed Hussein, Minister of International Development, announced today that Canada is providing an initial funding of 10 million dollars for humanitarian assistance in response to recent calls from experienced and trusted humanitarian partners to meet the urgent needs arising from the crisis in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza Strip.
The statement clarified that this funding will help provide food, water, emergency medical assistance, protection services, and other life-saving aid.
Canada will ensure that no money reaches the hands of Hamas.
Details of the allocations to specific partners will be shared in the coming days.
A portion of the funding will be allocated to support the Canadian Red Cross and its partners - the Palestinian Red Crescent Society and Magen David Adom.
The safety and welfare of civilians must also be a top priority.
The statement also noted that Canada will remain steadfast in its call for compliance with international humanitarian law.
Therefore, Canada urges all parties to facilitate the rapid and unhindered passage of essential humanitarian assistance to civilians in need, emphasizing our collective responsibility to uphold the principles of humanity, dignity, and protection for all.
