Canada congratulates Iraq on holding provincial council elections

Canada congratulated, today Tuesday, the Iraqi government for its success in organizing the first provincial council elections since 2013.

Canadian Ambassador in Baghdad Kathy Bonka said in a post on the X platform followed by "Al-Ghad Press" that "her country congratulates the Republic of Iraq on holding the first provincial council elections since 2013," noting that she "appreciates the efforts of the Election Commission in completing the voting."

Ambassador Bonka expressed "her thanks to the Iraqi government for its success in securing a safe environment for voters to vote," confirming that "her country continues to support Iraq's efforts to build an inclusive democracy."

U.S. Ambassador to Baghdad, Alina Romanowski, confirmed today, Tuesday, her country's eagerness to work with the newly elected members of the provincial councils.

The Council of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission announced the successful organization and management of the electoral process for the provincial council elections.

According to a schedule issued by the commission, the total number of voters in the general and special voting reached 6 million and 599 thousand and 668 voters, while the voting rate was 41%.
