The modern substation 16 of PUC Services Inc. has been officially completed.
The substation operates in Sault Ste. Marie using modern technology, the new substation will help reduce the frequency and duration of power outages in the northern end of the city, and provide increased capacity to accommodate future growth and economic development within the community.
PUC said in a press statement on Wednesday, "The $6 million investment will also reduce ongoing operating and maintenance costs, and help support the new Sault Smart Grid system, providing residential customers an average saving of 2.7 percent on their monthly bills."
