Former Amazon.com workers and union organizers visited some sites of the e-commerce giant in Quebec on Friday as part of a global movement urging the company to stop "restricting" workers and communities.

Mustafa Hanawi, a former Amazon worker and union activist at the Migrant Workers Center, said he and others will be reaching out to workers at the YUL2 and DXT6 facilities in Lachin to remind them of their rights and encourage the employer to do better.

Hanawi also added, who worked at the DTX4 delivery center in Laval: "We are here today, alongside other Amazon partners around the world, to say enough."

The visit, which took place on "Black Friday"—one of the busiest times for the Seattle-based company—aimed to push the company to pay fair wages and taxes and to think better about its environmental impact.

It is part of the Make Amazon Pay movement, which will see Amazon workers and labor rights groups in at least 30 countries, including the United States and England, striking or rallying to support fair wages and climate change measures.

Also, workers in these countries denounce the alleged decline in wages, while Amazon earns record revenues. The company pays no income tax in Europe and saw an 18% increase in carbon dioxide emissions last year.

Also for workers and consumers, all prices have risen. For everyone else, global temperatures are rising, and our planet is under pressure, says the Make Amazon Pay website. "But instead of supporting its employees, communities, and planet Earth, Amazon squeezes them to the last drop." Quote from Make Amazon Pay.

In response, Christine Gable, an Amazon spokesperson, pointed out that the company is investing heavily in all the areas criticized by the protesters. She added that the company is committed to being carbon neutral by 2040 and offers competitive wages and excellent benefits while innovating ways to keep employees healthy and safe.
