The United Nations Security Council will vote on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, on a draft resolution proposed by Brazil calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in the conflict between the occupying state and Hamas to allow humanitarian aid to reach the Gaza Strip.

Diplomats said that the council is expected to discuss, at the request of the UAE and Russia, the bombing of a hospital in central Gaza on Tuesday evening, which resulted in more than 500 martyrs, most of whom are women and children.

On another note, Russia has proposed adding a condemnation of the attack on the Baptist hospital to the resolution drafted by Brazil, which the Security Council is set to vote on.

Dmitry Polyansky, Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, said via Telegram, "Today we completed the amendment regarding the condemnation of the airstrikes on Gaza by condemning the bombing of the hospital."

A draft resolution proposed by Russia in the UN Security Council calling for a humanitarian ceasefire in the war between the Zionist entity and Hamas in Gaza failed to achieve the minimum number of required votes, which is nine in the 15-member council.

The United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Japan voted against the resolution, while the UAE, Russia, China, Gabon, and Mozambique supported it. Brazil, Malta, Albania, Switzerland, Ecuador, and Ghana abstained from voting.
