The minimum wage in the province rose on Saturday, and while Ontario residents received an increase, it is not the highest rate in the country.

As of October 1, the general minimum wage in Ontario increased by 50 cents to a rate of $15.50 per hour.

According to the province, the hourly rate will increase every year on October 1. Compared to the rest of the country, Ontario's minimum wage is the fourth highest in Canada.

Nunavut has the highest minimum wage at $16 per hour, with no age restrictions.

In Ontario, students earn $14.60 per hour, unless employed as domestic workers, where they earn $17.05 per hour.

Yukon ranks second at $15.70 per hour, and British Columbia is third at $15.65 per hour.

Hourly rates were raised respectively on April 1 and June 1 of this year.

The Northwest Territories currently have a minimum wage rate of $15.20 per hour, and it is expected to be adjusted next year in September.

The last time it was developed was in 2021. In Quebec, the hourly rate has been $14.25 since May 1, 2022.

Since April 1, 2022, the minimum wage in Prince Edward Island has been $13.70 per hour, and it will increase by 80 cents to $14.50 per hour at the start of the new year on January 1, 2023.

Alberta's wage is $15 per hour, remaining unchanged since 2018.

Outside Ontario, wage rates increased in several provinces on October 1.

Saskatchewan raised the minimum wage from $11.81 per hour to $13 per hour.

Minimum wage in Manitoba is now $13.50 per hour, and is expected to rise to $14.15 and $15 per hour on April 1, 2023, and October 1, 2023, respectively.

Also on October 1, the hourly rate in New Brunswick rose by $1 to $13.75 per hour, Nova Scotia increased by 25 cents to $13.60 per hour, and the minimum wage in Newfoundland and Labrador increased by 50 cents to $13.70 per hour.
