The Toronto Police released surveillance video of a violent robbery at the Rexdale jewelry store last spring where suspects allegedly stole $750,000 worth of stolen goods. This took place on May 4th in the Finch Avenue West and Highway 27 area at around 12:50 p.m., according to the timestamp on the video released on Friday. In a press statement, investigators said four men whose identities were concealed with masks and construction vests came to the unnamed store and waited for an employee to open the door, adding that when one employee opened the door, all four men rushed into the store. The video also appears to show one suspect violently pulling the employee through a locked security door before bringing him down into the store. When the suspect ran out (the door), the employee was pulled by one of his partners while it appeared that another, the third party, pulled a firearm from his waistband and pointed it at him. Police said the suspect carrying the weapon then demanded money and jewelry, after which it appears the suspects looted the store, taking display cases full of jewelry and placing them in rainproof bags. At one point, one of the store employees, whose identities were obscured by the police, was kicked several times by one of the suspects before they all eventually fled the scene in a stolen car with a "large" amount of jewelry, which police told CTV News Toronto was valued at $750,000. However, the employees did not suffer serious injuries. According to police, investigators from the Hold Up Squad were able to identify one of the suspects, and with the assistance of 23 Division, executed two search warrants on October 5th, where the searches allegedly yielded clothing worn by the suspect during the robbery. As a result, 18-year-old Jonathan Prévost from Richmond Hill was arrested and charged with several offenses, including robbery with a firearm, intentional disguise, two counts of forcible confinement, and assault with a weapon. Police also stated that the other three suspects in the video remain unidentified and released images of the suspects from the surveillance video on Friday in an attempt to identify them, urging anyone who recognizes them not to approach but to call 911 directly or anyone with information related to the investigation to contact police at 416-808-7350 or Stoppers.
