The police confirmed the news of the death of an Indian immigrant family who froze to death near the U.S.-Canadian border earlier this year, but they said they are still unsure how they reached Manitoba. The bodies of a family of four, including a husband, wife, and their two children, were found in January near Emerson, Manitoba, just a few meters from the U.S. border. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police also stated that they determined the family arrived in Toronto on January 12 and were transported to the airport by a private car. While in the city, they stayed in private accommodations and hotels and used ride-sharing apps to move between the places they were staying. However, police investigators believe the family had left Toronto shortly before their bodies were discovered on January 19, but they say they still do not know how they traveled from the city to Emerson. In the same context, the police believe that the family's journey from India to Canada, as well as their attempt to cross the border, was part of a larger human smuggling network, as they were victims of human trafficking. Authorities in the United States and Canada are still trying to determine who transported the family to Emerson where they were found dead. The family hails from Dingotcha village in western India, which has about 3,500 residents.
