Quebec Premier François Legault took advantage of his traditional Christmas message to confirm that his government will not abandon people who are experiencing financial difficulties, especially during this holiday season.
In a short video clip he posted on social media on Saturday evening, Legault said that Quebec will not abandon those who feel that the current holiday season is more difficult financially due to the rise in the cost of living, as combating inflation has been at the core of the priorities of the Premier of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) party since his re-election early last October.
As in the weeks leading up to the holiday season, millions of Quebec residents received amounts ranging from $400 to $600, based on their income. These one-time amounts sent by Legault’s government are, specifically, part of the anti-inflation shield.
Legault also said on social media that this is not the "holiday" that many had hoped for, given the severe weather conditions across the province of Quebec and the resulting frequent power outages, which are still affecting more than 60,000 subscribers in Quebec and about 30,000 in Ontario.
