Full service on the rail transit system in Ottawa resumed Friday afternoon, after four and a half days of a lightning strike that reduced service on the system.

OC Transpo tweeted at 2:30 p.m. Friday: "Regular train service has resumed.

All platforms at all stations on Line 1 are open." René Amilcar, general manager of transit services, said in a statement: "All repairs to the overhead sequence system of the first O-Train line, in addition to all testing and verification activities, have been completed."

"O-Train Line 1 will resume full service at regular frequency soon, with 11 trains scheduled to operate during the afternoon peak period."

A part of the system on the O-Train between uOttawa and Lees stations was damaged during a storm on Sunday when it was struck by lightning at around 11:15 p.m.

Tracks were also damaged on Track 2 of the LRT line, requiring repairs.

OC Transpo operated the O-Train between Blair and St. Laurent stations and between Rideau and Tunney's Pasture stations between Tuesday and Friday, with R1 bus service running between St. Laurent and Rideau stations.

Amilcar said: "We recognize the impact of these disruptions on our customers, and we thank them for their continued patience as we work with the Rideau Transit Group (RTG) to resolve issues and return to normal operations."
