The Chief Medical Officer of Ontario confirmed the spread of the coronavirus in the province at the present time, pointing out that the levels of both this virus and influenza are rising.
Dr. Kieran Moore, the Chief Medical Officer of Health, said, "It seems that both viruses are set to peak during the holiday season."
He emphasized that this is a key week for vaccinating Ontario residents against COVID-19 and influenza because the vaccination takes about 10 to 14 days to take effect.
Moore explained that only 13 percent of eligible populations have received the updated COVID-19 vaccine targeting the Omicron variant, and only 40 percent of people aged 65 and over - and he says the latter figure makes him particularly concerned because the virus severely affects these people.
He also confirmed that the rate of people who have received COVID-19 vaccines peaked three weeks ago, and Moore does not plan to implement any public health measures, saying he will continue "reporting the risks."
