Parts of central and eastern Canada could see up to 20 centimeters of snow by the weekend, as a winter storm continues its eastward track.

Southern Ontario, as well as some northern parts of the province, have already experienced significant snowfall and freezing rain, as a low-pressure system coming from the United States - known as Colorado - struck the province on Thursday.

The Canadian Ministry of the Environment advised against unnecessary travel, and Thursday's storm caused many flights to be delayed or canceled at Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Special weather bulletins and snow warnings were also issued across Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick, as the meteorological agency forecast snow accumulations and winds up to 70 km/h for Friday and Saturday. Southern Manitoba could also see up to 30 cm of snow by the end of the weekend.

The Canadian Ministry of the Environment said another low-pressure system may make its way through Ontario next week.
