The Governor General Mary Simon stripped actor and athlete Johnny Issaluk of the Order of Canada.
The appointment of Issaluk was terminated according to a notice published on August 31.
An appointment to the Order of Canada may be terminated by the Governor General on the advice of an advisory council.
The notice does not include reasons for Issaluk's membership withdrawal and Rideau Hall did not clarify the details, but said the advisory council "concluded that there are grounds for termination."
Issaluk, who hails from Chesterfield Inlet, was appointed to the highest civilian honor in Canada in 2019.
At that time, the Vice Regal office said Issaluk was chosen "for his contributions as an athlete, actor, teacher, and Arctic ambassador, raising the visibility of Northern and Inuit culture."
