The Canadian Ministry of Health has issued instructions regarding the recall of an educational toy, intended for children, which was found to contain a lead content higher than the permitted level and above regulatory limits.
According to the Toy Regulations under the Canadian Consumer Product Safety Act, it is illegal to import, advertise, or sell toys containing more than 90 mg/total lead content.
The ministry also urges consumers to stop purchasing or using the My first words toy by Placote, and has called for contacting the manufacturer to obtain compensation.
The Ministry of Health's statement regarding the product recall indicated that lead is highly hazardous to children, considered a toxic substance, and can cause serious health complications, such as anemia, immune diseases, diarrhea, vomiting, and in the worst case, may result in loss of life.
