With only two weeks left in the 2022 Ontario election campaign, early voting begins today across the province.

From May 19 until May 28, residents of Ontario’s 124 electoral districts will be able to vote in advance polling locations between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The general election in Ontario takes place on June 2, with voting on that day from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

However, there are other ways you can cast your vote.

If you want to vote by mail, you have until 6 p.m. on May 27.

Spokesperson Eleni Armenakis said in early May, "Voters need to bring one piece of ID with their name and address, and if they have a voter information card, they can bring that too, which really makes the process simple when they arrive at the polling site."

What additional support is available to help you cast your vote?

Armenakis said there are instructions on how to vote in 38 different languages if needed.

And if people want to vote from home or hospital due to a disability or medical condition, or need additional assistance, Armenakis said arrangements can be made by contacting the local election office (found through the voter information service).

What’s new in voting in 2022 compared to previous elections?

The Ontario election team moved some processes to digital platforms.

For example, they launched the Elections Ontario app that allows voters to find out where they can vote, download their information card to use with ID for voting, check if they are on the voters list, along with the ability to make changes and access the app to vote by mail.

For someone who doesn’t want to download the app, many of its services are available on the Elections Ontario website.

What COVID-19 public health precautions will be in place when voting?

Armenakis said Ontario election staff are working with the province’s chief medical officers of health to implement measures at polling locations.

She said, "Voters will see many of the things they are already used to in terms of physical distancing, hand sanitizer, high-touch surface cleaning, that kind of stuff."

What about job opportunities at polling locations?

Elections Ontario is still recruiting workers at all polling locations across the province.

Armenakis said there are about 55,000 jobs available and people can work for one day or more on voting days in Ontario.
