The International Federation of Association Football "FIFA" chose the city of Jeddah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to host the 2023 edition of the Club World Cup scheduled to be held late this year.

This came according to a statement published by "FIFA" on its official website on Monday, after the International Federation Council decided to grant Saudi Arabia the honor of organizing this edition in February without announcing the name of the city.

The Saudi Federation confirmed in a separate statement that the choice of the Bride of the Red Sea for the upcoming Club World Cup "came after an official visit by a delegation of FIFA officials to Jeddah last week to review the ongoing preparations to host the tournament scheduled to be held between December 12 and 22 of this year."

According to the Saudi statement, the federation president, Yasser bin Hassan Al-Mishal, confirmed "the readiness of the city of Jeddah to organize this year's edition of the Club World Cup and to provide an unprecedented experience for players and fans, in light of the city's rich history in organizing major sports events, and its possession of a wide range of advanced facilities and infrastructure."

Al-Mishal added: "Hosting a tournament of the size of the Club World Cup embodies a perfect opportunity to develop the game locally, elevate it to new horizons, reveal the true face of the Kingdom, and highlight the hospitality of its people and their great passion for football."

Al-Mishal emphasized "the importance of continuous cooperation and coordination with the FIFA working team to organize an exceptional edition of the tournament."

Seven clubs are scheduled to participate in the upcoming tournament, namely, the Saudi host Al-Ittihad, the English Manchester City, holders of the UEFA Champions League title, Egyptian Al Ahly, champions of Africa, and Japanese Urawa Red Diamonds, champions of Asia.

Also participating are New Zealand's Auckland City, champions of the Oceania continent, and Mexico's León, champions of North America "CONCACAF", awaiting the determination of the South American champion.
